Terms of Service

Last updated: 27 February 2026 · Effective immediately

1. Who provides this service

StudyLens ("we", "us", "the service") is operated by Zain Mughal, a sole trader based in the United Kingdom. By using StudyLens you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

Contact: zain@studylens.net

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use StudyLens. By using the service you confirm that you are 13 or older. If we discover that a user is under 13, we will delete their account and all associated data.

If you are between 13 and 17, you confirm that you have your parent or guardian's permission to use StudyLens. StudyLens is designed for students and does not collect more data than necessary to provide the study service.

3. Your account

You may use StudyLens without creating an account. If you sign in via Clerk, you are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. Anonymous sessions are not linked to a user identity and will be lost if you clear your browser storage.

4. Your content

You own your notes. You retain all intellectual property rights in the content you upload to StudyLens ("User Content").

By uploading User Content, you grant StudyLens a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to process, store, and transmit that content solely for the purpose of providing the service to you (generating quiz questions, concept maps, explanations, and spaced-repetition schedules). This licence ends when you delete your content or account.

We do not use your notes to train AI models. Content sent to the Google Gemini API is processed under Google's paid-tier terms, which prohibit use of API inputs for model training.

5. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • Upload content you do not own or do not have permission to use, including copyrighted textbooks, publisher materials, or other third-party works not licensed for this purpose
  • Upload content containing personal data of third parties without their consent
  • Upload unlawful, harmful, abusive, or offensive content
  • Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the service's underlying models, data, or APIs beyond normal use
  • Use the service in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Create multiple accounts to circumvent usage limits

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules.

6. AI-generated content

StudyLens uses artificial intelligence to generate quiz questions, explanations, concept summaries, and study materials based on your uploaded notes. AI-generated content:

  • May contain inaccuracies, errors, or outdated information
  • Is not a substitute for professional academic, medical, legal, or financial advice
  • Should be verified against authoritative sources before use in assessed work

You are responsible for how you use AI-generated content. StudyLens does not warrant the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of any generated output.

7. Intellectual property

StudyLens, its software, design, branding, and all platform-generated content (excluding your User Content) are owned by or licensed to us. You may not reproduce, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the platform without our prior written consent.

8. Service availability

StudyLens is currently in alpha. We do not guarantee uptime, availability, or continuity of the service. We may suspend, modify, or discontinue the service at any time, with or without notice.

We will make reasonable efforts to preserve your data, but we recommend keeping backups of any notes you upload.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, uninterrupted, or that defects will be corrected.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law (including the Consumer Rights Act 2015), StudyLens's total liability to you for all claims arising from use of the service shall not exceed the total amount you have paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. As the service is currently free, this means our liability is limited to £0 in most cases.

We do not exclude or limit our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any other liability that cannot be excluded under English law.

We are not liable for: loss of data (keep backups); loss of profits or revenue; indirect or consequential losses; or any loss resulting from reliance on AI-generated content.

11. Copyright takedown notices

We respect intellectual property rights. If you believe content hosted on StudyLens infringes your copyright, please send a written notice to zain@studylens.net including: a description of the copyrighted work, the URL of the infringing content, your contact details, and a statement of good-faith belief that the use is not authorised. We will act promptly on valid notices under the E-Commerce Regulations 2002.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by email (if you have an account) or by posting a notice in the app. Your continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

13. Governing law and disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, subject to your rights as a consumer under applicable legislation.
